James D'Leon

James D’Leon

The Rangeley Public Library and the Rangeley Friends Arts, two Rangeley non-profit organizations, are partnering to offer an exciting afternoon and evening on Thursday, August 9th. Beginning at 4:00 pm you are invited to help celebrate the Rangeley Public Library with cocktails and a silent auction. For your entertainment Mike Blythe will be offering acoustic music and there will be delicious light fare, a cash bar provided by Bald Mtn. Camps and a fabulous silent auction. All of the auction items will be on display at the Library throughout July. Final bids will be taken at this celebration party. You don’t have to be present to win – just make sure you bid high enough so that no one will top your bid. The Library’s portion of this evening will end sharply at 6:30.

James D’Leon, Internation Steinway Artist

Beginning at 7:00 pm the Rangeley Friends of the Arts will present classical pianist, James D’Leon, at the Episcopal Church. Do you ever wonder what goes on in the creation of classical music you hear? Do you ever feel “lost” when listening to classical music? Do you want to know more but were afraid to ask? Well, acclaimed concert pianist James D’Leon makes a rare appearance in Rangeley to help answer these questions. Through an evening of solo piano performance, he will explain every work on the program. Highlights will include: why D’Leon considers Beethoven’s 32 variations in c minor the “Baskin-Robbins” of piano works; how Liszt wrote his Ballade in b minor during his “mid-life crisis”; how you can travel and experience “A Day in a Life of a Spanish Town” without leaving your seat, and listen to Mozart’s happy musical theme be transformed by the Doppler Effect in a work that takes place in a haunted house.

Make an evening out of it and attend both Library and RFA event with a Combo Ticket for $25.

If you can’t make it to both, individual tickets are available for $15 each and all are on sale at the Library and the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce. For more information call the Rangeley Public Library at 864-5529.
