“Some Enchanted Evening – A Summer Serenade” is the concert being presented by John David Adams – bass-baritone on August 6, 2013 at the Church of the Good Shepherd – 7:00 p.m. The evening will feature vocal selections touching on themes of evening, summer, and – of course – love. With a little something for everyone, Mr. Adams has specially selected a variety of beloved and enjoyable works from the bass-baritone repertoire, ranging from opera to Broadway. Highlights include arias by Mozart, Gounod, and Wagner, as well as art songs by Schubert and Ravel; American songs by composers including Stephen Foster and Paul Bowles; and Broadway classics by Cole Porter, and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
A versatile and accomplished artist, bass-baritone John David Adams is acclaimed as a powerful and communicative concert soloist, equally praised for his portrayals in diverse opera and stage roles. His rich and flexible voice adapts to a wide range of vocal repertoire, from Monteverdi to world-premier compositions, and with his intelligent musicianship and insightful interpretive gifts, he delivers distinctive and memorable performances.
His warm, resonant tone and vocal agility are particularly well-suited to Baroque literature, for which he has received special recognition. His opera and musical stage credits range from Mozart to Sondheim. Raised in the Boston area, John studied voice and opera at Hartt School of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
