The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will produce a live theater event Don’t Drink the Water by Woody Allen, in August. The performance dates are August 19, 20, and 21.
Don’t Drink the Water is a play written by Woody Allen that premiered on Broadway in 1966. Through a cascade of comedy, this affair takes place inside an American embassy behind the Iron Curtain. An American tourist – a caterer by trade – and his wife and daughter rush into the embassy two steps ahead of the police who suspect them of spying and picture-taking. It’s not much of a refuge, for the ambassador is absent and his son, now in charge, has been expelled from a dozen countries and the continent of Africa. Nevertheless, they carefully and frantically plot their escape, and the ambassador’s son and the caterer’s daughter even have time to fall in love. Don’t Drink the Water is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. Visit: www.concordtheatricals.com
Auditions will be held at the RFA Lakeside Theater, 2493 Main St in Rangeley on Saturday May 7, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. Auditions are open to everyone regardless of past stage experience and we’d love to have some new talent participate!
At auditions, be prepared to read off a script. If you are interested in being involved but not on stage, please come and let us know what you’d like to do – we need stage crew, set design, lighting and sound techs. This is a great opportunity to get involved in something new and have some fun!
