Artist Statement
Colors, shapes and lines… we all explore our surroundings differently. For me, I connect to the world as a visual learner. Many of my abstract paintings develop from interpretations of an object, a place or a feeling as I look at a blank piece of canvas. My free time as a retired elementary school teacher has allowed me to develop painting techniques and step out of my “comfort zone”. Some say this is when the real living begins and painting realistic scenes is stepping out for me. The places I paint may seem real in my recent work, but are only imagined in my mind and is a more challenging style of painting for me. My reason for creating in a world of paint…well, it fills my soul with joy, calms my body and provides a positive mindset. It’s a win win for myself and to those around me.
