Marcia Baker, Dorothy Mosher – Paintings
Exhibit: October 5-December 1, 2017
Artist’s Reception: October 6, 2017, 5-7 PM
Action! Marcia Baker’s energetic and vibrant watercolor paintings represent her connection with the woods and coast of Maine. Favorite outdoor pastimes, like kayaking or sailing to her favorite coastal island, are woven into stories. Sporting images of fly-fishing, skiing, hiking and bird hunting are captured from experiences with her husband and have been compared to Winslow Homer’s style. Her aspiration is “to pass on those inspiring moments to you.” She has recently expanded into oil painting and pastel media and she is known for her underwater scenes of trout and salmon. Vivid wildlife images, such as moose, ravens and wild birds, come to life on paper and canvas.
Awards: Best of Show at the annual Freeport Art Exhibit; 2nd place watercolor in 2013 Art in August show; numerous awards at the Maine State Sportsmens’ Show; 3rd place in 2012 miniature art show in Westbrook Gallery. Marcia currently is represented by Gallery 444, Rockland; and is in a group show on Birds at the Gilsland Audubon Center in Falmouth. She also was selected as 2015 Artist of the Year for Maine Inland and Fisheries Department.
Baker is an avid ecologist and sportswoman. Her passion for wildlife conservation recently landed her the 2015 “Conservationist of the Year” Award by the Maine Wilderness Guides Association. Baker is a retired Psychotherapist living in Rangeley, Maine, and a self-taught artist.
Dorothy Mosher: In addition to looking after Rangeley’s health and well-being, local Nurse Practitioner Dorothy Mosher has been developing her skills as an artist for ten years. Her love of the great outdoors was fostered by generations of family living close to the land in her native Idaho. An accomplished horsewoman, outdoor sportswoman and musician, her themes exist in nature and in the stories of the great Northwest. This is Ms. Mosher’s first public exhibition of her art work. She will perform on guitar and sing an original composition at the opening reception.
